As work on Sydney's Metro rail project continues, 2024 saw a major upheaval on the existing rail network with trains being replaced between Bankstpwn and Sydenham for around a year. If passengers in the south west were expecting a fleet of brand new rail replacement buses - as happened in the previous major exercise around Epping and Chatswwod in 2018 - however the contract was won by Transit Systems, which will be operating sixty new BCI diesels, and U-go Mobility - a joint operation by Go-Ahead and engineering company UGL. Another forty buses have been seconded, primarily from U-go's existing Region 10 fleet. This is a prime example, 4867 (MO4867) a 2007 Custom CB60 Evo II bodied Volvo B12BLE seen outside Sydenham Station on Saturday a week ago. It is on the SW2, a frequent limited stop service to Bankstown running express to Belmore, then all stops. The SW1 serves all stops along the line and it is topped off by the SW3 linking to just Canterbury and Campsie. To compensate train passengers for the disruption all three services are free.
